The Heart Foundation supports Australians living with heart disease by funding critical research into the causes, prevention and treatment of heart disease, as well as running vital prevention and support programs that help to save lives, such as Healthy Active by Design.

Healthy Active by Design is an internally acclaimed,  web-based tool created by the Heart Foundation to highlight how best-practice planning and design of buildings, streets, towns and cities can improve heart health. The site is a practical guide that offers the best available evidence, practical advice, case studies, checklists and videos. A key aim of the site is to assist those who design and build our communities to develop healthy and active cities and neighbourhoods.

The Heart Foundation promotes and supports the creation of healthier built and natural environments. For decades we have supported planners, developers, local governments and communities working towards creating streets, towns and cities that allow, support and encourage physical activity. We know that one of the keyways of improving heart health is to increase physical activity levels, and evidence has shown that improving the design and planning of built and natural environments makes it easier for everyone to be more active and lead heart-healthy lives.
